Ray Ainsley holds the record for the highest score ever on one hole at a major. During the second round of the 1938 U.S. Open at Cherry hills Country Club in Denver, he shot an incredibly horrible 19 on the par 4 16th hole. After his approach landed in a fast-moving stream the fronted the green, he took off his shoes and socks and flailed away at his submerged ball.
